Have you spotted the City Protection Officers out on patrol?

Alert message sent 07/10/2021 16:53:00

Information sent on behalf of Gloucestershire Constabulary

We are very lucky in the City to work alongside the amazing team of City Protection Officers. (CPOs)

Have you seen the CPOs out on patrol in the City?

They are an integral part of the work to keep the City Safe & deter crime & Anti-Social Behaviour !

The scheme was introduced in Gloucester in 2017. CPOs are paid for by the Gloucester BID (Business Improvement District) which raised the money from private businesses, Gloucester city council and the Police and Crime Commissioner.

CPOs are tasked with duties including antisocial behaviour, street drinking, beggars and shoplifting as well as providing a highly visible presence.

CPOs do not have the power of arrest but have the powers of a security guard and can detain someone until police arrive. CPOs are also fitted with their own body cameras and have direct contact with Police CCTV operators via the Gloucester City Safe radio network.

The CPOs work closely with the local neighbourhood policing team including PCSOs & Officers and often work together to tackle crime trends, obtain intelligence & provide a visible deterrent in the City.

(Pictured , some of the CPO team along with PC Jenkins who before joining the Police was himself a CPO).

You can find out more about the CPOs and follow what they get up to over on their twitter account - @GlosBiDCPO.

Many Thanks
PCSO Adam Stevens
