Warning following thefts from insecure vehicles in Winchcombe

Alert message sent 10/09/2021 14:22:00

Information sent on behalf of Gloucestershire Constabulary

Police are asking those living in Winchcombe and the surrounding areas to please be vigilant following a rise in reports of thefts from motor vehicles.

A number of reports have been received over recent days of unknown offenders entering vehicles before searching them and stealing items from inside.

One incident on Becketts Lane in Greet saw a car being targeted with cash stolen from inside, another incident on Corndean Lane in Winchcombe involved the theft of keys and one incident in Hawling resulted in golf equipment being taken.

It was later established that the vehicles were not locked at the time of being targeted.

Vehicle crime is often opportunistic and officers are asking the public to please check that car doors are locked and that personal belongings/valuables are removed where possible.

Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity or is targeted by a vehicle break-in is asked to call 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress. Information can also be submitted via our online form: https://www.gloucestershire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/soh/seen-or-heard/
